Food for thought

the worthing society talk

the history of grade ii* listed beach house

Thursday 7th march at 3pm

We are delighted to welcome Sue Belton Worthing Society Chair and David Clark, Publicity Officer, to tell us the story of this wonderful building.

Susan says, ‘Beach House is one of the last surviving Beach -Side villas of the Regency Period. Built in 1820 by the noted architect, John Biagio Rebecca, it has been home to a wide diversity of owners and organisations. Our talk explores its early days as a Mansion house,  the owners and domestic staff, to a home for refugee children during the Spanish Civil War

This talk  was  written to celebrate the Bi-Centenary of the house in 2020. It was saved  from demolition by the Worthing Civic Society (now  The Worthing Society) in 1982.’

The Worthing Society look at all the local planning applications to ensure we don’t lose any more of our history and heritage.

The talk will begin at 3pm and will be followed by a cup of tea or coffee, scone, jam and cream.
